It is going to be interesting to see who comes out on top of the opinion polls after tonight's debate because in the immediate aftermath there was very little between to choose them.

Last week's debate belonged to Nick Clegg but if anything tonight his confidence was just the wrong side cocky to deliver any further blows to Gordon Brown or David Cameron who, as predicted, looked a lot more comfortable this time out.

Brown was statesman like at times, witty at others while Cameron seemed more sure of his arguments and looked a lot less nervous that he did at last week's outing.

The whole formet seemed to flow much better this week and it is a shame that the viewing figures will be down on the ITV debate because I think tonight we really did learn that the parties differ so much on a lot of issues.

At times it even got close to being a proper debate with raised voices, accusations of lies and differences of opinions, all expertly managed by presenter Adam Boulton, who looked the most nervous of all.

This is what televised debates should be about and I personally cannot wait to see the three leaders battle it out on the BBC next week.

I'll be posting more analysis tomorrow morning, including a look at how the various newspapers called the result.
