The last of the mainstream party manifesto launches sees the Liberal Democrats set out their vision should the near-impossible happen and they storm to victory on May 6.
In Nick Clegg and Vince Cable they seem to have men who are genuine whilst having plenty of substance and their policies - certainly having had a quick skim through the manifesto - seem sensible and achievable.
Raising the tax threshold to £10,000 - a move to be paid for by closing loopholes which benefit the rich - a shake-up of the education system, cutting class sizes and targeting £2.5 billion at struggling pupils, and a reform including breaking up the giant banks, separating their investment and High Street operations will all appeal to those who are fed-up with the perceived bias towards the rich.
Cable’s honesty about the level of cuts needed to bring the deficit - an elephant in the room apparently - down make not sit quite as well but difficult decisions need to be made and a heads in sand approach won’t work in the long run.
Will it convince people to end 65 years of Conservative-Labour governance and elect a Lib Dem Prime Minister? I’m not sure but Clegg’s go-getter attitude will win them an army of new supporters which could be so important in years to come.
William Hague launched the Tories’ manifesto - a very nicely presented hardback book - in Bolton yesterday and he seemed to go down well with the shoppers he met en route to Bolton Market.
Whether that will transfer to votes at the polls we will have to wait and see because its easy to say you are going to vote for a party in full glare of the TV cameras.
The Tories know that he North West, and Greater Manchester in particular, is hard to crack and Hague has promised more visits from top Conservatives in the current week.
Its tough work being a politician and that was evident yesterday with Hague who was on Radio 4 live from Westminster yesterday morning before to Battersea for the national launch, up to Bolton for the northern launch and then back down to London for an appearance on the very enjoyable Campaign Show on BBC.
Still I am told he got to share his flight back to London with Bolton Conservative leader Cllr John Walsh who hitched a lift to he capital to watch his beloved Bolton Wanderers’ 1-0 defeat at Chelsea.
