KEARSLEY teenager Shaun Hopwood is taking the local snooker scene by storm.
The 13-year-old ace has only been playing the game for two years but the George Tomlinson High School pupil blew away a string of much more experienced opponents to become the youngest player to win the Farnworth Snooker League title.
A member of Farnworth Snooker Club’s teams which play in both the Bolton and Farnworth Leagues, Shaun has made a dramatic impact on the local scene.
His amazing form will earn him promotion from the C team to the A team for next season’s Bolton Snooker League campaign, but he has a doubles final with Jason Auty to contest in the Farnworth League later this month first.
Farnworth’s Craig Steadman, a member of the world professional tour, was aged 15 before he made his first century, but Shaun, who is two years younger, is regularly making breaks of 70 plus and expects to break the three figure barrier later this year.
Steadman knows the potential of the youngster as Shaun has already knocked him out of the doubles competition this season.
