TABLE TENNIS: RAMSBOTTOM A retained the Premier Division title for the ninth consecutive season after a 7-2 victory over the team currently in second spot, Hilton Tameside.
Mike Moir scored his usual treble and Mark Ramsbottom and Andy Jackson both lost to Jake Shaw.
Ramsbottom B continued their challenge for second place with a 7-2 win at Radcliffe, featuring trebles by Brian Clements and Derek Yeong which leaves them two points behind Tameside with two matches in hand.
Ron Pennington was unbeaten for Hilton A in their 7-2 win over Little Lever A, as were Glen Payne and Barry Elliott for Wharton who beat Ramsbottom C 6-3.
The three top teams in Division One did not play this week but, Heaton A and St Catherine’s B are certain to finish first and second.
Lee Davenport trebled for Ladybridge A who were beaten 5-4 by visitors Nomads A, and Dave Scowcroft won three and Ady Denson two to give Heaton C a 5-4 win at Meadow Bank.
John Hutchinson and Paul Tatlock were both unbeaten for Little Lever C in a 7-2 win at Hilton B which they followed with a 5-4 win at Wingates.
Division Two’s top team, Nomads B, scored a 7-2 win at Heaton F which featured three wins by Gareth Palmer and Brett Haslam.
Second-placed Grubba Fans beat BEN A 9-0 leaving Nomads six points ahead of Grubba with a match in hand.
Matthew Fields trebled for Hilton E who beat Meadow Hill A 5-4, as did John Scowcroft for Heaton D who won 7-2 at Hilton D.
BEN B, who are currently in second place in the Third Division, beat Hilton H 7-2 with three wins by Alan Hibbert and James Bollard.
Gary Hibbert trebled for Hilton F who beat Walkden Meths 7-2, as did John Riley for Meadow Hill B in a 6-3 victory over Irlam Steel.
Farnworth SC scored an 8-1 victory at Ladybridge C with three wins by John Ainley and John Rothwell and two by John Kofi.
Hilton J leapfrog Farnworth TTC B, who have two matches in hand, and did not play this week, to go top of Division Four after an 8-1 victory over Hilton I. The win featured trebles by Mihn Le and Andy Morey and a double by John Parker.
Colin Roberts trebled for Heaton G who beat Hilton K 6-3, with Jordon Brookes winning two for the improving Hilton junior team.
Chris Ahmed and Josh Sandford were unbeaten for Lads Club B in a 7-2 victory over Brass.
In the semi-finals of the George Yates Shield, Heaton D scored a nine-point victory in a close match with Coburg, and St Catherine’s D won at Ladybridge B by 52 points.
