My recent reviews of CDs released on the new Kind of Blue label, based in Switzerland, has triggered another batch and I will get round to them all in due course.
One which I enjoyed immensely is by the George Cables Trio, entitled "A letter to Dexter" (cat no KOB 10006), released on Monday of last week.
Cables, one of the most respected and influential keyboard players in modern jazz, worked with hard-bop saxophonist Dexter Gordon between 1977-9, a period he describes as among the most rewarding moments of his life.
Cables is joined by bassist Rufus Reid and drummer Victor Lewis on this tribute CD, which includes a number of Gordon's compositions and two classics: "Body and Soul" and "Round Midnight".
