DEFIANT Defence Secretary Bob Ainsworth last night declared: “We’re still in the game.”
On a visit to the Bury North constituency of expenses scandal MP David Chaytor, Mr Ainsworth acknowledged that Labour were still behind in the polls.
But he said: “We are still very much in the game. The gap in the opinion polls is closing and that would have been unimaginable last year.
“People want to see the economy recover and I think the Conservative policies do not deliver that and there is a real choice for people to make.
“I think the Tories are the same party they have always been. David Cameron has done a very good job with the gloss paint, but it is still the same building underneath.”
On his visit to the Fusiliers Museum, Mr Ainsworth met Labour candidate Maryam Khan.
