A NEW Channel Five documentary will give viewers the opportunity to witness the dangerous work of crews from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.
The eight-part series, currently being filmed, will be transmitted on prime time TV during autumn.
It will give a unique insight into the operational role of firefighters in the county.
The series will use the latest technology, including thermal imaging cameras and CCTV on fire engines.
Cameras mounted on firefighters' protective equipment will also show viewers what crew members see inside burning buildings, at roadside rescues and during other incidents, often where lives are at risk.
County Fire Officer Barry Dixon said: "Many people have no idea just how vital and varied the operational role of the Fire and Rescue Service is and what a fantastic job our crews do on a daily basis.
"There have been many documentaries about other emergency services but nothing focusing on the fire and rescue service.
"We hope this series will give a real insight into the life threatening situations they face every day and that, using the new technology, it will give those watching a real understanding of the challenges we face."
