SIR Ian McKellen is to play a role in a "mock-umentary" about the smash hit film King Kong.

The former Bolton School actor is reported to have agreed to star in the low budget movie created by two young filmmakers from Croydon in south London.

Despite having played top roles in Lord of the Rings and X-Men and being a veteran of the stage, Sir Ian is said to be excited by his new role.

The film, Guerrilla Distribution, is about two film makers trying to con their way into the movie industry by making a low budget King Kong before director Peter Jackson is able to finish his version.

It is being created by Adrian Bowley and Adam van Gelder, both aged 22. Adrian said: "I managed to track Sir Ian when he was in Aladdin in London.

"We pitched the idea to him and he quite enjoyed the concept of the film so he invited us to his house to discuss appearing in it."
