JUMP racing fans are in for a treat at Haydock Park Racecourse on Saturday (21 JANUARY) with the second favourite for the Cheltenham Gold Cup set to be in action.

Kingscliff - winner of the inaugural £150,000 Betfair Chase at Haydock Park in November - is poised to be taken on in this year's Peter Marsh Chase by two former winners.

Lord Transcend won the race 12 months ago for Graham Wylie, the man who built up the Sage software empire before ploughing millions of pounds of his fortune into racehorses.

And the veteran steeplechaser Truckers Tavern, which won the race in 2003 before being runner-up to Best Mate in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, is among the entries for the three-mile steeplechase too.

Graham Wylie also has a leading light in the opening race of the afternoon - the Class 1 Anglo Irish Bank Novices' Hurdle.

Percussionist was fourth in the 2004 Derby, and was subsequently bought by Mr Wylie and is now racing over hurdles. He could face a tough task though against Jonjo O'Neill Refinement which will be bidding for a remarkable SIXTH win in a row.

Added to the mix on Saturday is the Commhoist Logistics Champion Hurdle Trial in which Cheltenham Festival prospect Faasel - runner-up in a high-class race during the North West Masters at Haydock Park in the autumn - is expected to run under top northern jockey Tony Dobbin.

Adam Waterworth, Haydock Park's managing director, said: "It's quality all the way on Saturday, with some very good horses indeed taking part in the major races as they continue their racing campaigns on the way to the Cheltenham Festival in March."
