KHALILOU Fadiga will be asked to take up where Ivan Campo left off when Wanderers return to Premiership action at Portsmouth, provided he gets a clean bill of health.

The Senegal international, who missed out on an African Cup of Nations call and missed Saturday's FA Cup victory over Arsenal, is the man Sam Allardyce has turned to after losing Campo for at least the next 10 weeks.

Campo's absence - he was looking impressive until he broke his foot in a challenge that earned Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby a yellow card - tempted the Bolton boss to switch teen sensation, Joey O'Brien, from right back and draft in the fit-again Nicky Hunt.

But he prefers not to upset his record-breaking back four, which has gone four games without conceding a goal and extended Wanderers' clean sheet tally to 16 in all competitions, 12 in 21 league games, which is already their best ever Premiership haul.

With Gary Speed injured and Abdoulaye Faye on duty with Senegal, O'Brien, the 19-year-old Dubliner, was in the running for the midfield holding role, which he has played in the past. But Allardyce said: "I will resist tinkering with the back four.

"Even though Joey can play in central midfield and Nicky Hunt is coming back to his best, I will leave the back four unit in place.

"Khalilou Fadiga is making good progress on his knee injury and should be fit.

"He will come in for Campo in midfield and that is likely to be the only change."
