BRIAN Derbyshire, predictably, has fundamentally changed his argument.
In his earlier letter of January 17, the main thrust was that the diabolical morons who destroy graveyards might be nutured into law abiding, God fearing citizens through Church Council and encouragement to play darts in the Sunday School I ridiculed the notion.
Now Mr Derbyshire (Letters January 26 ) falsely berates me for criticising the idea that the Church try and attract young people (note: NOT the louts on the extreme fringes of society) by offering more than hymns and sermons.
Nonsense! I did no such thing!
Like Brian Derbyshire, I, too, spent many happy evening in my youth engaged in recreational activities (in my case table tennis) within a Sunday School.
Mr Derbyshire has watered down his initial idea to something that is obvious: some youths would benefit from joining in social events run by the Church, but vandals veering on the psychopathic would not.
