BENDY traffic lights which cushion the impact in crashes are being installed at a motorway accident hotspot.

The posts bend or break off if they are hit by a vehicle and are less likely to seriously injure drivers or passengers.

They are part of safety measures on the M62 at Thornham, between Rochdale and Oldham, which has seen around 50 accidents in the last three years.

The lights are installed in only a handful of sites in the UK - including the M6, M5 and M1.

They control congestion and are being installed at the slip road junctions with the work is expected to be finished by March.
