POLICE have issued a warning after thieves stole raided allotment sheds.
Gardeners were being urged to make sure sheds are securely locked and valuables are kept out of sight after a string of thefts in the last week.
The crooks have struck nine times at plots off Settle Street, Great Lever, in the last seven days and four times over the weekend at Green Lane in Horwich.
Each time, tools including spades, forks, rakes, shovels and watering cans were stolen.
Police believe the same person may have been responsible for the crimes and say the stolen tools could be offered for sale at car boot sales or in pubs.
PC Steve Openshaw, Crime reduction advisor for Bolton Police, said: "There have been a number of thefts which we believe could be linked and may have been carried out at the same time.
"Anyone who uses an allotment should make sure their shed is securely locked and any valuable items left out of sight, or taken home.
"Any valuables which are left on site should be marked, ideally in paint, with the address and post code of the owner to make them as unattractive as possible to any prospective thieves.
"If you are offered tools for sale which you believe to have been stolen, or have any information, please get in touch with police."
Anyone with information is asked to contact 0161 872 5050 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
