MENTAL health bosses have launched an investigation after a teenage Prestwich Hospital patient died after being struck by a Metrolink tram.
Seventeen-year-old Rahim Ullah was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision which happened about 7.35pm on Sunday.
The Manchester-bound tram was travelling from Besses o' th' Barn towards Prestwich when it was in collision with the teenager who was on the tracks. Officers say the death is not suspicious.
It has emerged that Mr Ullah, who lived in Longsight, had been a patient at Prestwich Hospital.
Mr Andrew Brogan, director of nursing and patient safety for Bolton, Salford and Trafford Mental Health NHS Trust, said: "As part of trust procedure we are carrying out a serious incident review to establish all the facts. We are reporting the incident to the National Patient Safety Agency and will, of course, co-operate fully with any police inquiries.
"This is a tragedy and we give our condolences to the family."
Following the fatal accident, all Bury-bound and Victoria-bound trams were suspended until 10.20pm and a replacement bus service was put into operation.
