ONLY 2.1 per cent of Bolton's annual £88m raised through council tax is spent on public sector workers' pensions.
The figure, which equates to £1.84m, was released by Bolton Council after claims in the national media that nationally, more than 25 per cent of council tax is spent on 'gold-plated' pensions for public sector workers.
Research from government advisors showed that of £20 billion raised last year in England, 26 per cent, or £5.2 billion, funded the pensions of teachers, police, firefighters and town hall staff.
Steve Arnfield, Bolton Councils director of finance, said the national figures were misleading.
