SUPERMAN and Wonder Woman have got hitched - by Elvis Presley in Las Vegas.
It may sound like a storyline from a comic book, but Atherton couple Phil Robinson and Louise Smith, got married dressed as the two caped superheroes.
Phil and Louise had been dating for a couple of years before he popped the question. It had always been Louise's dream to get married dressed as Wonder Woman and Phil, who already owned a Superman costume, made the arrangements for a Vegas wedding ceremony conducted by an Elvis lookalike.
"It's something I always wanted to do," said Louise, aged 35. "I've always loved Wonder Woman and, originally, I wanted Phil to dress as Elvis. But he wanted to be Superman, so we agreed to have Elvis marry us instead."
As Superman raced down the Strip in Las Vegas in a black Mustang convertible with Wonder Woman at his side, well-wishers stopped them and demanded to take pictures of them in their wedding outfits. Inside the Little White Wedding Chapel, Elvis paced the aisle as the clock ticked towards the appointed hour. But in true Superman fashion, he arrived in the nick of time.
Phil's best man, photographer Kevin Parry, was also dressed as Superman and Elivs sang "It's now or never," as the couple exchanged vows and rings.
The couple's vows were just as off-the-wall as their wedding outfits.
Louise said: "The minister asked Phil: 'Will you take this hunk of burning love to be your wife?' and then asked me if I would take Superman as my husband. It was absolutely fantastic."
