MENTAL health bosses have launched an investigation after a teenage Prestwich Hospital patient died after being struck by a Metrolink tram.
Seventeen-year-old Rahim Ullah was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision at 7.35pm on Sunday.
The Manchester-bound tram was travelling from Besses o thBarn towards Prestwich when it was in collision with the teenager who was on the tracks. Officers say the death is not suspicious.
Mr Ullah, who lived in Longsight, had been a patient at Prestwich Hospital.
Mr Andrew Brogan, director of nursing and patient safety for Bolton, Salford and Trafford Mental Health NHS Trust, said: "We are carrying out a serious incident review. We are reporting the incident to the National Patient Safety Agency. This is a tragedy and we give our condolences to the family."
