SCHOOLS are set to close in Bury as part of plans to tackle falling pupil numbers.
Prestwich High School will shut and pupils sent to Parrenthorn School where a £7.5 million refurbishment will take place.
Broad Oak and Derby High Schools will also merge as part of a plan to put the new school on a £20 million site in the town by 2011.
Without making the changes, Bury Council predicts that an estimated 2,400 spare pupil places would exist by 2015, and the council would struggle to meet school running costs.
The proposals have been agreed by councillors and will now be passed to the independent School Organisation Committee to be finalised.
