FORMER Bury Amateur Boxing Club sensation Amir Khan is set for his toughest professional assignment to date on Saturday evening.

The talented 19-year-old takes on Belarussian Vitali Martynov (21) at Nottingham Arena with the fight to be screened live on ITV 1.

Although, technically, the Michael Jennings v Young Muttley British welterweight title scrap is topping the bill, the majority of the sell-out crowd of 8,000 are sure to be in the Khan camp.

Its the first six-rounder for Bury ABC coach Mike Jelleys proteg, who is keeping his feet on the ground ahead of what he knows will be a difficult test.

"It will be a question of pacing myself and picking my shots a lot more," he said.

"But half my amateur opponents were eastern Europeans so I know how they fight."

Martynov has a record of 10 wins from 11 fights, including seven stoppages.

Khan will be hoping to make it five wins from five in the pro ranks.
