SHAKERS manager Chris Casper has swooped to bring another promising young striker to Gigg Lane on loan in the shape of Barnsley's Nathan Jarman.

The 19-year-old Scunthorpe-born player will go straight into the first team squad for Saturday's home clash against Northampton Town (3pm).

The highly-rated youngster, who earned rave reviews on his way through the youth ranks at the League One side, made his first team debut last season and now has 17 appearances to his name.

"Nathan is a good player who we have been keeping our eye on," said Casper.

"He will give us some options up front as he is very strong and quick and will increase the competition for places."

Jarman has been described by some pundits as one of the most talented players to come through the Barnsley youth set-up and is firmly in manager Andy Ritchie's first team plans.

However, Ritchie believes he would benefit from some regular first team action.

He is one of four young Yorkshire-based players currently at Gigg with the Sheffield United trio, striker Colin Marrison, midfielder Kyle Nix and left-back Evan Horwood all still with the club.

And with the end of the transfer window now in sight, the Shakers boss is determined to further strengthen before trading closes on the last day of January.

"We're going to try and get one or two things lined up before the end of the month," he added.

"It's important to have competition in all positions and we have been working hard looking at who is available."

On Monday morning, the first team squad watched the video of last Saturday's disappointing 3-1 defeat at Boston and the viewing highlighted the individual errors that cost them the game.

"We've got to eradicate the kind of mistakes that cost us on Saturday," said Casper.

"The first was a straightforward slip by the goalkeeper but we were very sloppy defensively when the penalty was conceded and for the third goal.

"I feel we missed a good opportunity after they were beaten 5-0 a few days earlier.

"But it's gone now and we have to concentrate on making ourselves difficult to beat like we were a few weeks ago."

Casper said there would be personnel changes following last Saturday's result but will still be without goalkeeper Neil Edwards (shoulder), defenders Tom Kennedy (hamstring) and Lee Unsworth (groin) and striker Tom Youngs (stomach muscle).

Young defender Andy Parrish has recovered from shingles and will go straight back into the squad for the visit of the Cobblers.

Colin Calderwood's side have hit a decent patch of form recently and currently sit sixth, comfortably in the play-off places.

On Tuesday evening they fought back twice from a goal down to draw 2-2 with Notts County at Meadow Lane, a game Casper took advantage of watching.

"Northampton are a decent team but we've had some good results against the better sides at Gigg Lane," he said.

"It's all about staying consistent and keeping to our gameplan, we need to bounce back immediately.

"We are working hard in training and the players' application is good but in recent weeks we have been too easy to score against."

Tuesday's draw saw the Cobblers extend their unbeaten away league run to six games.

In the fixture at Sixfields, back in September, a Simon Whaley goal in the first half looked like earning Bury all three points until Ryan Gilligan equalised seven minutes from time in what proved to be manager Graham Barrow's penultimate game.
