ON behalf of Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council, I would like to extend an invitation to all citizens of the borough to join me at this year's Holocaust Memorial Ceremony.
The theme this year is 'One Person Can Make A Difference'.
The ceremony commences at 3pm this Sunday, January 29th in the Festival Hall, Bolton Town Hall and I am very pleased that we have schoolchildren from Eatock Primary, Withins Secondary and Firwood Special Schools taking part. I am very grateful to them and indeed to everyone involved in this important event.
Our Holocaust Ceremony will be a time to remember all those throughout the world who have died or been affected by war, genocide or ethnic cleansing.
At a time when the world's skills can search the outer reaches of space for the meaning of life, we here on earth have yet to discover the value and sanctity of life.
It is the failing of my generation that we still witness man's inhumanity to man with many parts of the world committing genocide on the other because of tribal, religious or political conflict.
This is a day when we in Bolton, representing all faiths and creeds, declare ourselves against such intolerance and commit ourselves to a world where all people are respected and valued as members of the one human race.
I hope many citizens of the borough will join me on Sunday.
Further details about the Holocaust Ceremony can be obtained by contacting the Mayor's Office on 01204 331057.
Councillor Frank R White
Mayor of Bolton
