WITH reference to the story about drivers not being able to see yellow lines on the road because of leaves ('Clear the lines, drivers appeal' Bury Times, January 12).
The claim by a council spokesman that the lines are 'perfectly adequate for enforcement' makes it clear that Bury Council operate to a low standard when implementing yellow line restrictions.
The yellow line restrictions require an upright pole with a plaque, explaining the restrictions at the boundary of the yellow line.
The plaque should be at right angles to the kerb. There must be another pole half-way between the two with a plaque parallel to the kerb. The poles have to be at the kerb edge, not at the far side of the pavement, as in the case of Unsworth Street.
The regulations are there so that every city and town operates the same system. Bury Council cannot choose which parts to observe and which to modify.
The town centre is riddled with yellow line anomalies. It is time the council put its house in order and conformed to the regulations.
