AS an avid follower of Bolton's heritage I read with interest the article about the missing dinosaur (Monday, January 23).
I used to frequent Bolton Museum often as a child, and also as a teenager, and I distinctly remember the model of a dinosaur as it took pride of place in the centre of the large room containing the stuffed animals, birds and other artefacts. It left a huge gap in the museum when it was dismantled.
There must be hundreds of people who visited the museum in the 50s and 60s who remember it also.
I expect the staff who worked there then have since retired but I am very surprised to learn that there are no records of its existence.
Surely if it has been packed away, a model of that size (I'm guessing it to be around 30ft long or more) would be hard to lose, even in a dismantled state. Lets hope that someone can shed some light on its disappearence and maybe it could be restored to its former glory. I am sure the schoolchildren today would love to see it and possibly think the bones are real, like I did as a child.
