A LORRY driver was jailed for nearly five years after he was caught with a £2.5 million haul of drugs.
Derek Fletcher's HGV was stopped and searched by Customs when he arrived at Dover in April 2004, Preston Crown Court heard.
He had been to Europe on a legitimate business trip to collect car parts, but also returned with kilos of cannabis resin and amphetamine.
Fletcher, aged 42, of The Spinnings, Summerseat, was jailed for four years and nine months on Tuesday for two offences of conspiracy to fraudulently evade the prohibition of the importation of drugs, one offence of possessing live cartridge bullets without a firearms certificate and also a bail offence.
Mr Tony Cross, prosecuting, said Fletcher had been an HGV driver for a firm based near Preston for six years.
Some 819 kilos of cannabis resin and 29.8 kilos of amphetamine were found inside his vehicle.
Ammunition and an air pistol were later found in a raid on his home.
