RESIDENTS were evacuated from their homes after a hand grenade was found in a cupboard.

Workmen were clearing out a house in Newbury Walk, Brownlow Fold, Bolton, at 11am on Monday when the device was found.

Police put up a 50m cordon around the property and 12 homes were evacuated while bomb disposal experts were called.

The grenade was later found to be a training device and was taken away for examination. Residents were allowed to return to their homes in the afternoon.
