SIX-year-old Jake Bellis has been given a gift to light up his life.
The Farnworth youngster, who suffers from autism, now has a portable sensory light unit which produces light movements to match his mood.
It was presented to him by the charity Children, which gives grants so children can have equipment that will enhance their lives.
Fundraising manager Elizabeth Oakes said: "The unit is sound-reactive and responds to noises Jake makes.
"If you clap musically, it will produce lights to the tune. It uses fibre optics, clear plastic rods and a colour dome to produce the various colours."
The unit cost £700 and the money was raised in Bolton through collections, a race night and a band night organised by local fundraisers Ruth Allan, Matt Parker, Andy Brown and Rebecca Gainard.
Jake's mum, Donna, said: "This light unit has provided Jake with hours of fun and stimulation, but also has the calming effect that Jake's condition demands.
"We are so grateful to Children Today. Without their help, we could not have raised the £700 needed to buy this equipment."
l Former Wanderers star Peter Nicholson is leaving for the Borneo jungle in May with six other soccer legends to help raise money for the Cheshire-based charity.
