A FREE centre which aims to make it more convenient for commuters to get treatment for minor illnesses is to be opened near Manchester's Piccadilly Station.
The commuter walk-in centre, operated by a private health firm for the NHS, will be able to get advice and treatment from nurses, who run the clinics, without an appointment.
Opening hours will be from 7am until 7pm on weekdays.
Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt said: "The public has told us that they want faster, more convenient NHS services.
"Many banks and supermarkets are now open round the clock - the NHS needs to move to match people's expectations for extended opening hours.
"New commuter centres are a step towards meeting the needs of today's patients, as they will offer advice and treatment outside of GPs' traditional opening times, right on the doorstep of many people's workplace."
More centres are due to be created at London's Liverpool Street station, Canary Wharf, King's Cross and Victoria, in London, Leeds City Station and Newcastle Central Station.
