A NEW scheme has been launched to help local people maximise their job opportunties in advance of the opening of a new retail park.
There will be hundreds of vacancies when work is completed this spring on the complex at the former First Bus depot site in Crook Street, next to the Sainsbury's store. Retailers opening there include Next, Boots, TJ Hughes and DIY store Wickes.
East Bolton Regeneration Programme Steps 2 Success project, in conjunction with Bolton Council Employment and Skills Unit, is offering free training in customer service or retail to unemployed, eligible people who live in Breightmet, Tonge Fold, Tonge Moor, Hall I' th' Wood, Darcy Lever, The Haulgh and parts of Burnden.
'Skills Passport' training in Retail/Customer Service offers the opportunity to gain recognised qualifications that can help people get a job in Retail/Customer Services.
Training sessions start on Wednesday, February 1, at the Castle Hill Centre in Tonge Moor, Bolton, and will be held on two days a week for six weeks. Benefits are not affected and, subject to availability, there is help with travel expenses.
The courses are suitable for all age groups.
