A BOLTON couple's plans for a dream wedding came crashing down when their favourite club was shut over safety fears.
Dave Oliphant and Carrie Ball had planned to hold their reception in Club Indiego, where they met and courted.
But the Spa Road venue was deemed unsafe following the collapse of a neighbouring building just one week before their big day.
Dave and Carrie, who live in Heaton, were tying the knot at Mere Hall Register Office after hastily switching their reception to Churchgate bar Number Fifteen.
Dave, a call centre worker for British Gas who celebrated his 30th birthday on Sunday, said: "We were absolutely devastated. The place means so much to us, and for this to happen so close to the day was a disaster.
"Everything was planned - we had even booked the band that was playing on the night we met."
The club was not damaged by the collapse of the derelict building in Gartside Street, which is believed to have been caused by dry rot.
But as a safety precaution, building inspectors have closed the club - which runs into the basement of the damaged building - until clearance of the rubble and restoration work has finished.
The couple are flying to Johannesburg on Wednesday for a two-week honeymoon.
Carrie, a 24-year-old veterinary nurse assistant, said: "I was heartbroken when I heard the news, but the first thing we hoped was that no-one was hurt by that other building's collapse. We met at the club three years ago when I was alone at the bar because my friends had gone home early.
"I saw Dave at the bar and started to talk. We swapped numbers - and here we are now three years later.
"We also got engaged after a night out at the club 18 months ago. We just hope it will be open again when we get back from South Africa."
The couple found a new venue for their evening reception at Number Fifteen, with the help of Club Indiego owner Gay Nuttall.
Gay said: "It's a real shame the reception had to be cancelled at the club because it is an important place to them, but I'm really glad that we managed to arrange an alternative venue at such short notice so they can enjoy their special day."
The owner of both buildings, Tasos Pattichis, said: "I'm really sad that the happy couple didn't have the chance to hold their reception at the club.
"If I could, I would open the doors, but safety has to come first."
