BOLTON Hockey Cub ladies first team have generally struggled against Bowdon Highton but they put that right this time as they picked up their third win in three games with a 2-1 success.
Bolton started well and gave a warning to the opposition that this was not going to be the walkover that past fixtures between the two sides suggested it would be.
Following an excellent spell of possession, Fiona Holdsworth crossed the ball to midfield ace Vicky Warburton on the far post, who lifted the ball over the keeper.
Bowdon, however, came back to level the scores and it took a defiant defence, led by keeper Beki Short, to keep out further Bowdon attacks.
In the second half, Bolton stepped up the pressure and it paid off when Jenny Washington was fouled to earn a penalty flick which Sue Buckley swept into the back of the net.
Bowden stormed back but Kerry Barnes and Louise Bull both saved shots on the line before Bolton created another breakthrough when captain Jenny Cocker and Jenny Washington earned a second flick penalty.
This time, however, the Bowden keeper did enough to prevent Buckley from scoring a third goal.
