POLICE are hunting the driver of a car which was being driven "extremely fast" when it hit and killed a 45-year-old woman in Wigan Road, Deane, at about 3am on Saturday morning.
The victim has been named as Laura Entwistle, a mother of two, who is believed to have lived locally.
The incident happened near The Rumworth pub.
Det Insp Sara Wallwork urged anyone who witnessed the "tragic incident" to contact Greater Manchester Police.
"We do not have a very good description of the car, as we believe it was travelling extremely fast, but we are looking for a car which would have extensive damage to the front. It is also likely to have a smashed windscreen," she said.
"I would particularly appeal to any scrap yards or car fitters, who may be approached to fix a car of this description to please contact us immediately."
Anyone with any information should contact Leigh Road Police Unit on 0161 856 7273.
