HIGH schools must wait a further six days to learn their fate under council plans which could close two or three of them.
Councillors on the ruling executive were due to make a decision on Wednesday, January 25 - but have postponed this to a special meeting on Tuesday, January 31. They say they wanted to give the public more notice of their proposals.
Following the executive's decision, statutory notices will then be published.
However, the ultimate decision is left to the School Organisation Committee, an independent body which comprises five groups: local councillors, representatives from the Church of England and Roman Catholic faiths, the Learning and Skills Council, and governors/head teachers. Each group has one vote, and a closure must be unanimous.
Letters will be sent to parents next week outlining what proposals councillors will consider at the executive.
