AN EVENT dating back to before the Second World War has been staged again in Ainsworth.
Over 75s in the village enjoyed a luncheon with the Mayor and Mayoress of Bury, Coun Steve and Mrs Jean Treadgold, and other members of the community.
Mrs Val Watts, one of the organisers, said: "When the luncheon first took place, it was for the over-70s, but now that people are staying active for longer, we have increased the age group to the over-75s.
"We decided to have the event in the afternoon instead of at night time, and we provided transport for anyone who needed it."
A gift of slippers was handed out to the oldest man and woman who attended the meal, and all the diners received Marks and Spencer gift vouchers. Diners also enjoyed musical entertainment from the group Pianist and Friends, at the meal held at Ainsworth Unitarian School in Knowsley Street.
