JOHN Coleman has admitted that he expects to miss out on two of his transfer targets.

The Stanley boss was hoping to welcome at least one new face to the squad before the weekend.

But two players he had his eye on - thought to be a Premiership squad player and a League One player - are unlikely to be joining the Reds.

"Unfortunately the two players I was hoping to sign this week look like they aren't going to be coming to the club, so that's a setback," he said.

"It looks like one may now be going to Hull City and one is going to stay put.

"We can't really compete with Hull City but the fact we were close to signing that player shows the ambition we've got as a club."

He added: "We've got 11 or 12 days to work at getting another couple of bodies in.

"Everyone will be trying to sign players to bolster a push for promotion, but what we are trying to be wary of is signing someone for the sake of making a signing.

"If you do that I don't think anybody benefits, apart from maybe the player who gets a decent contract out of it."
