YOUNGSTERS will be reminded to "Stop, Look, Listen and Live" with special new road markings on their way to school.

Pupils from nine Radcliffe schools will soon be seeing the new 'mats' marking their routes to and from school, provided by Bury's Neighbourhood Road Safety Initiative.

The idea, costing Bury Council £10,000, aims to capture the attention of the youngsters, to drive forward the message of road safety in primary schools across Radcliffe.

A total of 80 mats will be added to the junctions near to the following primary schools over the next two months: St Andrew's, Wesley Methodist, St Mary's RC, Gorsefield, Radcliffe, Cams Lane, Radcliffe Hall, St John's and Chapelfield.

Paul Birch, Principal Road Safety Officer from Bury Council, said: "We hope that the new thermo plastic mats with their coloured message will get the children talking about road safety and discussing ideas on how they can act with more responsibility before crossing roads.

"This is just one of the ways in which we are engaging with the school and backs up the key message which we hope will reduce collisions and injuries on our roads."
