I READ with interest the letters from Carl Machin and P A Allan. In the past I have had numerous letters published in your newspaper on the subject of the lack of a swimming pool in Bolton.

It is a disgrace. We had three pools once, which were closed, and we thought we had got our 'Jewel in the Crown' with the Water Place. It was closed through bad management.

I am 84 this year, and have asthma and bronchitis, plus arthritis. All are helped by a regular swim, which helps me keep mobile.

The Water Place was in a prime location for buses and shopping after your swim.

I have talked to people and some think we will get a pool. But I think the Council would rather spend money on other useless projects.

I cannot find words strong enough to voice my disgust.
