AFTER overseeing and tending Greenmount Cricket Club's picturesque ground for more than 38 years, Gordon Horrocks has finally called it a day.
The former Bury FC and Ramsbottom CC groundsman has a reputation for preparing a wicket that is second to none and it was under his supervision that the square at the Brandlesholme Road ground was completely relaid three years ago.
The club is now urgently seeking someone to take over from Gordon in what is a part-time paid post.
Anyone interested should contact club chairman Kevan Williams on 01204 884057 or cricket section chairman Dave Willetts on 01204 883912.
Meanwhile, Elton Cricket Club's junior nets will begin on Sunday January, 29 at 6pm at Castlebrook High School. The under 9s and under 11s will train from 6pm until 7.15pm, the under 13s will train for an hour from 7.15pm. At 8.15pm, the under 15s will practise for one hour with the under 17s and 18s having 45 minutes at 9.15pm.
The schedule will run until March, 5 and the senior nets will start on March, 12. New players are welcome to attend.
Meanwhile, the club have announced a series of dates in their social calender. There will be the annual Sports Quiz on Friday, February, 3 at 8.15pm. Team of four are invited to enter and the fee includes supper. Contact Geoff Hall on 797 9347 for more details.
There is a Cocktail Evening scheduled for February, 11 at 8pm, a Music Quiz on March, 4 at 8pm and the popular group Off the Record will be playing at the club on March, 11.
