PARENTS across the borough will know the fate of their children's high schools in just six days time.

Councillors on the ruling executive will recommend on Wednesday which two, or even three, secondary schools should close. Statutory notices will then be published.

However, the ultimate decision is left to the School Organisation Committee, an independent body which comprises five groups: local councillors, representatives from the Church of England and Roman Catholic faiths, the Learning and Skills Council, and governors/head teachers.

Each group has one vote, and a closure must be unanimous.

Letters will be sent to parents over the next few days outlining what proposals councillors will consider at the executive.
