A Greenmount school is on a high after receiving a £2,600 boost from a trekking expedition.
Holly Mount Primary School, in Hollymount Lane, accepted the donation from parent Damian Davies who tackled the infamous Three Peaks Challenge in a bid to raise money for the school.
With a group of friends, Mr Davies, from Ramsbottom, scaled the three highest peaks in England, Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, climbing more than 3,400 metres in just 22 hours. The group managed to raise more than £3,000 through sponsorship from friends, family and colleagues and were given an extra boost when Mr Daviess employer, the Royal Bank of Scotland, boosted the final total with a £500 donation from the banks Community Cashback programme for charities.
Mr Davies (37), whose daughter Grace attends Holly Mount Primary, donated £1,000 to Derian House Hospice and the rest to the school after becoming involved in the schools drive to buy some new computers. He said: "Local schools are always in need of funds and Im pleased we were able to make a difference to the kids at Holly Mount."
Headteacher Mr David Golding added: "We are thrilled that the efforts of Mr Davies and his friends mean that we can buy new computer equipment for school and really appreciate their support."
