RESIDENTS promised a plot of land for a community centre in Stoneclough are hopeful building work will start soon - despite the project being dogged by delays.
The eagerly-awaited community centre is due to be built alongside a multi-million pound housing development on the former Robert Fletcher paper mill, in Ringley Road.
The land, along with £189,000 in cash, has been promised to the group by the Warrington-based developer Countryside Homes, as part of a planning agreement.
That money is in addition to another £100,000 held in a trust fund by the campaigners.
The group is now waiting for the land to be signed over by the developer.
As part of phase three of the housing development, Countryside Homes have applied to amend the planning permission to build 93 apartments and 34 houses. The original application was for 48 apartments and 49 houses.
