FA Trophy second round replay: Paul Mullin made it five goals in four games as his double fired Accrington Stanley into the FA Trophy third round.
The striker, who snatched an injury time equaliser at Carshalton to force last night's replay, scored in both halves to secure a home tie with Conference North side Worksop Town, after they won their replay with Weston-Super-Mare 2-1.
But Mullin shouldn't have been the only name on the scoresheet after the Reds created a host of chances from various sources.
Stanley dominated the opening half from start to finish but didn't have enough to show for it.
In fact, had it not been for a 31st minute penalty - the only one of a possible three that could have been awarded - they may have been facing a similar battle to Saturday.
Gary Roberts had an early chance tipped round the post by Adam Federici.
Then the first of Stanley's penalty appeals, albeit faint on this occasion, was dismissed, when Roberts appeared to be brought down by left back Marlon Patterson as he weaved his way into the area.
Carshalton ventured forward but lacked ideas in the final third, and the Reds were unlucky not to take advantage on the break.
Leam Richardson picked out Roberts down the left, he cleverly cut inside and squared for Ian Craney after the midfielder had run the length of the field to join in the counter. But that energy went unrewarded as his drive smacked off captain Jon Cartledge's left leg and out to safety.
Andy Mangan went close in a rare start for the pacy striker, but he couldn't steer his far post header on target from Phil Edwards' right wing delivery.
The breakthrough finally arrived a minute later when Craney outfoxed Tchakounte Armel with a brilliant turn on the edge of the area, only to be tripped by the hapless central midfielder.
Peter Cavanagh had less time to wait than when he last prepared for spot kick, but it didn't do the Stanley captain any favours as Federici dived the right way. He could only parry the ball into the path of Mullin, however, who gleefully snapped up the chance to slide the rebound across the keeper and into the bottom left hand corner.
Stanley manager John Coleman was incandescent with rage in the dugout as his side was denied a second penalty seven minutes later for a handball offence when Roberts was challenging for a high ball.
But those appeals fell on deaf ears and Carshalton held firm until the break, with Cartledge prominent again as his timely challenge denied Roberts a run on goal, which was a shame as his deft control from Craney's inch perfect delivery warranted more.
Federici then made a stop on the line when Mangan's volley took a nick off Mullin's heel just before half-time.
Rock bottom Conference South side Carshalton failed to respond in the second half and Federici had to be at his best to slide out at the feet of Craney, who was running on to Mullin's perfectly weighted throughball.
Mangan should have edged the game beyond Carshalton's reach when Roberts' shot was parried at close range, but the teenager leaned back and scooped his effort disappointingly over the bar.
But Stanley banished any fears of a nervy finale with 21 minutes to go following a double subsitution.
Romuald Boco, who had been brought on with David Brown for Mangan and Cavanagh respctively, provided the assist with his first touch, exchanging passes with Mullin as he slipped the ball between the Robins' two centre halves and Mullin finished the job well to slide the ball beyond Federici and in off the left post.
Carshalton threatened, briefly, with substitute Danny Hunt shot straight at Elliot. But Stanley's route to the third round was clear.
