I AM writing regarding recent statements made by Brian Iddon in the House of Commons regarding the council housing situation in Bolton.

The horrendous state of the council housing stock has been going on for more than 20 years, for which all but one year was controlled by a Labour council.

It is a fact that perfectly habitable council properties in Bolton are lying empty because the local authority and Bolton at Home, that control the housing stock, are woefully underfunding any improvement and renovation schemes.

As for Dr Iddon's claim that tenants are getting properties woefully cheap and undervalued he fails to mention that, to qualify for maximum discounts on properties, tenants have had to live in the property for 10 or more years, by which time that tenant will have paid more than £20,000 on average in rent, and that is a conservative estimate.
