AMANDA Freeman had a really happy New Year . . . when she found out she had won £90,720.
Keen pool player Amanda (34) was getting ready for a night out in Bury when she matched five numbers and the bonus ball in the National Lottery's Lotto draw on New Year's Eve.
Her dad Keith, landlord of the Waterloo Hotel in Manchester Road, Bury, wrote down the winning numbers for her and it was when she checked them on the way out of her Tottington home that she realised she had won. She hid the winning ticket under shoes in the bottom of her wardrobe, and then celebrated the New Year with boyfriend Martin.
Amanda, who plays in the Radcliffe Pool League, said: "I picked the numbers randomly about three years ago, and I've had a few small wins, but never anything like this. I went into shock when I realised I had won.
"I might buy myself a new car, but I just see the money as a bit of security for the future. It's a good start to the New Year."
Amanda's win is already the talk of St Gabriel's High School, Bury, where she works as a teaching assistant.
She said: "I told the staff in my department that I had won the money, and it soon spread around. Everyone's really pleased for me."
The New Year's Eve jackpot, worth £5.6million, was won by one ticket holder Nineteen people matched five numbers and the bonus ball.
Amanda bought her winning ticket at Hayhurst Newsagents on Walshaw Road, Bury. The winning numbers were 6, 9, 11, 33, 36, 49 and bonus number 29.
