A BUILDING collapse has forced a Bolton nightclub to close is doors.
Building inspectors have told bosses at Club IndieGo in Spa Road they cannot open because the collapsed gable end on a neighbouring building would pose a safety risk.
The club, which extends into the basement of the collapsed building, has not been damaged, but safety chiefs have deemed it unsafe until a mound of rubble and masonry is cleared and restoration work has begun. Safety measures have now been put in place and the immediate area around the building closed off.
Club owner Gay Nuttall said: "The collapse happened in the early hours of Sunday morning when the club was empty.
"We are extremely lucky because nobody was there at the time.
"I have been informed that the we will have to stay closed this weekend which is a huge disappointment."
Building owner, Tasos Pattichis, said: "It is my main priority to make the building safe so that the club can start again as soon as possible.
"The building used to be a sorting office but has been empty for many years so luckily no-one was hurt.
"The direct cause of the collapse is still undetermined but the building inspector believes it could be dry rot in the joist."
Mr Pattichis, who also owns the lease of Club IndieGo, added: "We are removing the rubble and rebuilding the upper floors of the building and the club should hopefully be reopened by next week. Everyone is working really hard to resolve the situation."
