On Tuesday morning traffic which usually heads for Atherton along Platt Lane from Chequerbent was diverted through Daisy Hill causing tailbacks for a mile from the Schofield Lane junction.
A private contractor is carrying out sewer works in connection with the new housing developments along North Road and Bag Lane and the road is closed between Coal Pit Lane and Railway Street.
The alternative route is via North Road, Platt Lane, Park Road, Leigh Road, Lower Leigh Road, Schofield Lane, Wigan Road and Gloucester Street - and what a pain it is.
Why couldn't the work have been carried out over the holidays to cause less hassle?
