A MAN is wanted for questioning after a bogus official tried to trick his way into a 78-year-old man's home.
The man was captured on CCTV calling at a pensioner's house in Beatrice Street, Farnworth, posing as a council worker.
He told the elderly householder that he was eligible for a new front door to be fitted.
Fortunately, the house was fitted with a 'memocam' - a hidden camera which captures anyone calling at the front door.
The elderly man refused to let the bogus official in and he ran off.
The house is one of a number in the area which has been identified by police as a potential target for conmen and fitted with the secret camera.
Sgt Ian Coop at Bolton Police said: "Bogus officials will use all sorts of tactics, including this one, to try and gain access to the property.
"Despite being constantly reminded not to let anyone into the property without checking their identification, vulnerable people are still being targeted and conned.
"The community beat officers have identified potential victims in the area, particularly the elderly and cameras have been fitted to their homes."
Anyone with information about the incident on November 11, at 3pm is asked to call Bolton CID on 0161 856 5050 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting Crime reference 3233329C/05.
