I WAS very interested to read the article in the Bolton Evening News, regarding Harry Allen, assistant hangman.
My mother played the piano in the Rawson Arms in Peel Street in the 1940s, her name was Edith Valentine.
She said he never talked about his work, except to say no one died bravely.
I used to work in Peel Street, and I visited it a few weeks ago. I was amazed to see the new houses built where the pub was.
I didn't know it had been burned down - very sad.
