ORGANISERS of last year's Horwich Carnival have donated £2,700 to charity.
More than £700 was raised in the street collection with the rest largely made up of business donations.
A total of £1,500 went to Bolton Hospice and the remaining £1,200 is going to four of the Horwich primary schools.
Now the hunt is on to name this year's nominated charities.
Carnival secretary, Cllr Jim Gilfillan, said: "Normally, committee members suggest local charities that they know of, or of which they have had personal dealings, and we have had many varied organisations over the many years."
This year, however, the committee want to invite organisations to nominate themselves, or indeed others to nominate them. Cllr Gilfillan said: "The organisation must be either registered as a charity, or be a voluntary-run body. Furthermore, it must be able to demonstrate that it benefits the community of Horwich, or communities within Horwich."
Letters of nomination must be sent to Cllr Gilfillan, Horwich Carnival, c/o 35 Pinfold Close, Westhoughton BL5 2RN, to be received no later than January 31, 2006. Any further information can be obtained by ringing 01942 816352.
