Leigh Athletic claimed their second victory in as many games against local rivals Atherton Town when they followed up their cup victory with a comfortable 3-1 win in the league.
Leigh looked lively and opened the scoring after a good move which was started and finished by Chris Meredith. The second goal, 10 minutes later, was a shambolic defensive error with John Hyde passing back to his keeper Haseldine from 30 yards only to watch it roll under his foot and into the net. Atherton pulled a goal back in the second half through Tony Walker before James Langin ensured the victory with a sublime free kick that nestled in the top corner.
The second team drew 3-3 away at Stockport whilse the thirds beat Salford 3-2 with goals by M Edwards (2) and Tony Evans
