BLACKROD Town shrugged off the cobwebs to beat Coppull United 2-1 in their first game in a month.
The absence of competitive football was evident in Towns lacklustre first half performance and even when the Coppull keeper brought down Ebdon, Rob Findlows weak penalty enabled the lad to save comfortably and keep the scoresheet blank at the half-way point.
Coppull scored on 52 minutes, when their number nine prodded home a right wing cross. Blackrod then warmed up, gained confidence, and put some dangerous attacking moves together.
Coppull's keeper repeated his first half aberration, this time pulling Sam Cardwell down. The same player equalised from the penalty spot, then, with 15 minutes to go, sub Gaz Weigh dropped the ball into David Sutchs path and he lobbed the Coppull keeper to send Blackrod home 2-1 victors.
Danny Ashcroft continued his great goalscoring form as he grabbed both goals as Blackrod Town Reserves defeated Charnock Richard Reserves 2-1, to maintain their title challenge.
